Job Code – 403112 – Research Assistant II Lab
Duties & Responsibilities
The mission of the Wyss Institute for Biologically Inspired Engineering at Harvard University is to transform human healthcare and the environment by emulating the way nature builds. Developed as an alliance between Harvard and other premier academic and clinical partner institutions, Institute faculty and staff collaborate in high-risk, fundamental research and science-driven technology development. A major focus of the Institute is to translate the technologies developed by its faculty and staff into commercial products and therapies through collaborations with clinical investigators and establishment of corporate alliances. The Research Assistant II will work with a multidisciplinary team at the Wyss Institute working on exosome research. Exosomes are extracellular vesicles secreted by all cells that contain proteins and RNA. The RAII will work with the team at the Wyss Institute, primarily within David Walt’s lab and the newly established Diagnostics Platform, on questions pertaining to both the basic biology of extracellular vesicles, as well as technology development with regard to neurodegenerative disease diagnostics. The RAII will carry out a variety of experimental biological techniques including cell culture, exosome isolation from cell culture media and biological fluids, protein biochemistry, and RNA analysis. There may also be opportunities for the RAII to perform RNA-Seq and help with computational work, if interested. This position is for someone who is excited about science and interested in gaining additional research experience before graduate school. Although working with a team, the RAII will have significant opportunities for scientific independence, and previous RAIIs working with us have contributed to multiple publications.
Basic Qualifications
College background in biological science or related field required. At least two years’ experience in molecular biology or biochemistry. Education may count toward years of experience.
Additional Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree preferred. Experience with mammalian cell culture and RNA/protein analysis is advantageous, but not required.
