Position Summary

The Institute for Quantitative Health Science and Engineering (https://iq.msu.edu/) and the Department of Pharmacology & Toxicology (https://phmtox.msu.edu/) at Michigan State University are seeking a Research Associate (postdoctoral fellow) in the Kanada Lab.

One Research Associate (postdoc) position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Masamitsu Kanada as a member of the Division of Synthetic Biology & Regenerative Medicine led by Dr. Assaf Gilad (https://iq.msu.edu/research/synthetic-biology.html).  The Institute for Quantitative Health Science and Engineering offers a unique environment for performing state-of-the-art multidisciplinary research with many of the top scienctists in the field for understanding disease and developing early diagnostics and therapeutics.

The research project in the Kanada Lab includes:

(1)  Understanding cell-to-cell communication via extracellular vesicles (EVs), specifically exosomes and microvesicles.  Characterization of EV’s ability to send signals to tissue targets in the body for basic EV biology and clinical applications.

(2)  Engineering EVs or generating biomimetic EVs to develop a novel gene delivery system for cancer therapy.

(3)  Developing highly sensitive EV assays and high-throughput EV screens to identify druggable regulators of EV biogenesis.

Required Degree

Doctorate -Biomedical Sciences

Minimum Requirements

The successful candidate must hold a PhD in Biomedical Sciences with no more than 1 year postdoctoral experience.  The successful candidate will have a strong background in cell and molecular biology, cancer biology, and biochemistry.

Desired Qualifications

Previous experience with mammalian cell culture, fluorescence/electron microscopy, flow cytometry, PCR, immunoblotting, immunohistochemistry, and animal handling is desirable.
