Creative Biolabs is pleased to host a live webinar exploring the complex and contrasting roles of extracellular vesicles in the progression of Alzheimer’s disease. The session will feature Dr. Francesc Guix, Assistant Professor of Neuroscience at IQS–Universitat Ramon Llull, Barcelona, who will explain how these nano-sized messengers can contribute to and protect against neurodegeneration.

Dr. Guix will discuss the complex role of EVs in Alzheimer’s disease. While some EVs are function to remove harmful protein aggregates and help maintain cellular homeostasis, others carry neurotoxic factors like amyloid-β and tau, resulting in synaptic damage and neuroinflammation. This paradox places EVs at the crossroads of therapeutic opportunity and disease exacerbation.
Webinar Highlights
Overview of EVs biology and their role in brain homeostasis
Mechanisms by which EVs modulate neuroinflammation and proteostasis
EV-mediated spread of pathogenic proteins in AD progression
Potential of EVs as therapeutic targets and blood-based biomarkers
About the Speaker—Dr. Francesc Guix
Dr. Francesc Guix earned his Ph.D. under Prof. Francisco José Muñoz, with seminal work on peroxynitrite-induced tau pathology published in Brain. He completed postdoctoral training with leaders in the field, including Dennis Selkoe, Bart De Strooper, and Kai Simons, contributing to high-impact research on membrane biology and protease regulation. As a Marie Curie Fellow, he led studies on aging-related EV dysregulation. He has authored 30+ publications and serves as associate editor for Frontiers in Aging Neuroscience.
